About Art Beat Foundation

672 Toland Place, San Francisco, CA 94124
www.artbeatfoundation.org

Art Beat Foundation was founded in 2010 with the mission of supporting artistic community. We believe that art, in its various forms, plays an important part in any healthy society--and a vibrant community of artists, with strong ties and interactions, is the source of this contribution. Though we believe artists in general are an undeserved category, and we seek to support them in their endeavors to create new works and connect with other artists, we are particularly focused on those with diminished access to artistic resources, whether by age, income, class, race or gender.

Art Beat Foundation has four primary activities in this mission:

• Gallery/Music Space. This Art Beat Gallery, housed within San Francisco’s premier recording studio/art space, Light Rail Studios, is the center of the non-profit’s activities, and is meant to serve as a hub of thought, creativity and community. The gallery provides resources for the development and exhibition of new works by artists-in-residence and community members, in the form of both an office space, workspace and performance/gallery space.

• Artistic Events.
Art Beat co-sponsors and organizes regular events, taking place onsite at Light Rail Studios and elsewhere, focused on the exhibition of new works utilizing a variety of media. These events showcase a cross section of artists such as musicians, visual artists, poets and multimedia artists. The emphasis is on collaboration and exhibition, with a high degree of volunteer participation in creating the theme, mood and execution of the events.

• Arts Education.
In today’s tight economic times, resources for arts education have been some of the first to be cut, especially in the public education system. Art Beat Foundation will offer its first arts education workshops, for children and adults, at Light Rail Studios and the June Lake Mountain Music Festival in the Summer of 2011. These will include a range of topics/activities that reflect current volunteers, as well as artists-in-residence. Course descriptions and registration information will be available in May 2011. Scholarships, and sliding scale based on economic need will be available.

• Artist Grants.
Most emerging artists do not have the luxury of dedicating their full attention towards the creation of new works, and often have few places for their exhibition. These grants provide help fund the time, materials and facilities for creating and showing new works. With a goal of funding four artist/event grants per year, with the first awards in 2011, these new works will be a central focal point of events held at the gallery and an important resource for educational activities held at the gallery.
